I talk with animals.

Met a dog who was more concerned about feeling needed than well taken care of. “He needs me” meant more than a steady diet of food. He lived with a homeless man, until he was “rescued” by a well meaning person, who already lived with several other dogs and didn’t really have room in her life for him. So he found himself another person who “needed” him and allowed himself to be “stolen.”

A donkey spoke to me with a Yiddish accent, using Yiddish expressions to express herself.

In the winter I spoke with a cat who was very sick. His person could not live without him. She wanted to know what he wanted. He told me he was ready to die but that his Mom was not ready to let him go. “When the flowers come up” (and showed me daffodils) was to be his time to die.

I was on vacation in Southern California and found all the animals there talk! I was visiting an outdoor fish market where a pelican was sitting on the roof. I pointed my camera at him to take a picture, but hesitated and asked “May I take your picture?” “What’s in it for me?” was his gruff response.

Hummingbirds are incredible creatures. I quietly greeted one with “Good Morning” He quietly responded, “Good morning,” then a quick, “Gotta go, gotta go” and flew away.

An Anna’s Hummingbird at the Mission of San Juan Capistrano, viewed the garden that I thought as so glorious, as a prison. He also bemoaned the fact that everyone came to see the swallows but never commented on the hummingbirds. “No one talks to me.” His sorrow and loneliness was palpable.

A horse who was in the throes of what turned out to be a deadly colic said, “Forever….I will be with Mom forever.” And she haunts the barn to this day.

A woman who is a psychic (only sees dead people, “I don’t do animals”) asked me why she and her cat were always at each other’s throats. The cat said, “I can help, but she treats me like I’m only a cat.”

I am working with my own horse on leg yielding. Not a good work session. Later I visualize in my mind what I want her to do. I think of a beautiful tall long legged Warmblood leg yielding with cleanly crossing legs. My mare who is a Appaloosa with shorter legs than I was visualizing says, “Get real!” and shows me her legs.

I encountered an adorable puppy in my neighbor. She is so soft and cute and just has to greet everyone she meets. And then I heard a deep voice say, “Help! I’m trapped in here!”
